The Book Nook is priviliged to establish a Fund in memory of Judith Illsley. Judith and her husband John supported The Book Nook from the start and Judith made donations to help disadvantaged children access books, which she insisted to me were to remain anonymous.
Judith was a passionate supporter of children's literacy and in providing opportunities for those otherwise unable to access them. She believed very strongly in supporting small, local businesses and, since moving to the Stewarton area in 2011, was a champion of many small and independent businesses around the area. Judy died from breast cancer in July 2023, and right up until her death, even the day before, she was making donations to charity. She never asked for or wanted recognition for what she had done or who she had helped.
This Fund embodies Judy's love for books and passion for helping others and will allow the gift of reading to be given to many deserving children.
The Book Nook has already been able to provide books to children in care and to care experienced young peope, thanks to this Fund.
We miss Judith too and wish to thank John, Katy and the whole family for continuing to honour Judith in this way.
