Big news — The Book Nook Stewarton is relocating within Stewarton from 28th February!
Your independent bookshop right at the Centre
After three and a half wonderful years on the High Street, we’re moving to a very different kind of space. What isn’t changing is who we are: an independent bookshop, still selling books, still hosting all our clubs, activities and events, and still committed to being a joyful, welcoming place for our community.
Since opening in December 2020, our aim has always been simple: to be an asset to Stewarton. A place that supports wellbeing, brings people together, and celebrates the joy of books and reading for all ages. I hope you feel The Book Nook has lived up to that vision.
However, rising costs, declining High Street footfall and ongoing issues with the fabric of our current premises mean we can no longer continue in our existing location.
Our new home will allow us to focus even more strongly on our founding principles and to grow the range of community‑based activities we can offer.
East Ayrshire Leisure Ltd, working with East Ayrshire Council, have proposed a unique and exciting solution: The Book Nook will rent space within the Stewarton Area Centre. This exciting and innovative partnership isn’t just about sustaining the bookshop — it’s about expanding what we can do together for the community.
We’ll be creating a dedicated shop space in the room at the rear of the Library (currently the Learning Centre). In front of the shop, an engagement area will be set up for our smaller groups and events, while larger events will continue to take place in the big hall, just as many already do. East Ayrshire Leisure are working hard to ensure strong branding and signage so The Book Nook remains easy to find and highly visible.
This is a genuinely innovative opportunity, and we’re looking forward to working closely with Library colleagues and East Ayrshire Leisure to make it a success for everyone. Together, we hope to bring even more book‑related activities, support and joy to Stewarton.
To support this new chapter, The Book Nook Stewarton will be re‑registering as a Community Interest Company (CIC). This will allow us to apply for grants and funding, particularly to expand provision for children, young people and disadvantaged groups.
I’m incredibly grateful for our loyal and supportive customers, and I’m hopeful that — with your continued support — this big change will help The Book Nook thrive. You will still be able to:
Buy books in‑store
Order books for collection
Use our online shop
Attend BookNookers Book Club
Bring little ones to Tales for Tinies
Enrol PS‑age children in The Junior Book Nook Club
Stay for a chat and a coffee while you browse
Enjoy our fantastic programme of author events (and we have some incredible ones coming!)
And yes — we still need you to keep buying books. I hope you’ll find it just as easy (if not easier — there’s a car park!) to visit The Book Nook @ The Centre as you do at our current shop.
